For Kids: Fun with Food

Thursday June 2, 2011

These are fun ideas to serve up to the kids for snack or meal time. I can't wait to try some!

Peanut butter and jelly "sushi" roll ups.

Building blocks with marshmallows and toothpicks, or use pretzel sticks.

Fruit tacos. Take a warm sugar cookie, mold it and fill with cream cheese fruit dip and fresh fruit.

Chocolate dipped rice crispy bars.

Rainbow waffles with whipped cream clouds.

Boys will be Boys

Wednesday June 1, 2011

Today Turner got to play with Tayven. Mari and I made cards for card club and the boys ran around in the backyard, shirtless and carefree. Honestly, no wonder my child has deer ticks and poison ivy. Not to mention the style of shorts and cowboy boots! Boys! But look how much fun they had!

Mini Banana Splits

Tuesday May 31, 2011

The kids and I made this fun snack. They were super easy and the kids really enjoyed them!

Memorial Day 2011

Monday May 30, 2011

It was a busy day today! It was really rainy and ishy out so I told Tatumn we could go see a movie. She decided on Kung Fu Panda 2, so that's what we saw. It wasn't all that bad either. We ate popcorn and enjoyed the movie, meanwhile, it down poured outside. By the time the movie was over we had to hustle home, we had a birthday to attend. Abi, one of my little daycare girls, was turning 5 and her mom and dad threw a memorial day potluck picnic along with her bday celebration. It was a blast. The kids thought it was the best party ever. They had a balloon guy there who made them monkeys, hats, flowers, fishing poles, frogs, etc. out of balloons. They also had the Happ-E-Hills train giving rides to all the kids. It was awesome, you stuck your kid in the train and you didn't see them for a few hours, teasing, but honestly, my kids didn't want to get off the train. And it was nice knowing they were not getting into trouble, because they were trapped on the train. Of course when it was time to leave there were a few tears, but eventually we headed home. They got some excitement out of seeing a huge snake slithering up a nearby road to our house on the way home. I was disturbed to see such a big snake that close to my house. I prefer to not know they exist at all! But the kids loved it. It turned out to be the perfect Memorial Day!

Family Day

Sunday May 29, 2011

Since we didn't do anything fun, such as go camping, this Memorial Weekend we took today to spend some quality time together and have fun with the kids. We started the day off by making smores for breakfast. Yup, we built a fire and roasted marshmallows and enjoyed a few smores at 9 a.m. Ben was busy weed whipping so we figured what the heck, why not. The kids loved it!

Working hard on cleaning up the backyard.

Helping Daddy out.

He even brought me flowers!

The breakfast of the champions!

Enjoying their smores!

After we had our morning treat we thought we better get a little exercise in. A bike ride it was! We loaded up our gear and headed to the trail. We rode it down to the bowling alley to bowl a game. The kids were so happy. Tatumn even said, "This day has turned out to be so much fun!" See it's the little things!

Riding bikes was so much fun!

Bowling at Nybos.

This is their way of trying to get the ball to go to one side!

The rest of the day was leisurely spent at home. Tatumn worked hard on writing Happy Memorial Day with chalk on the sidewalk.

Family time seems hard to come by at this house. Work and activities prevent us from all being together normally. It was great to take advantage of this day and do something fun. It didn't break the bank, we didn't listen to whining all day, we simply enjoyed our day with everyday activities!

Memorial Weekend Scrappin

Saturday May 28, 2011

Tiff and I scrapped yet again. It was nice, nothing going on, Ben was gone, we did take a break to run to Target as always! Here are my pages:

Coupon Binder

Thursday May 26, 2011

Since starting my coupon addiction I have put together a binder. Yes, it's a little embarrassing, but if it saves me money it's gotta be worth it, right?! I had bought a few binders at a garage sale for .25 each so I was excited to put them to use. I ripped out all Turner's baseball cards from his protector sheets and put the sheets in my binder, filled them up with coupons and then labeled the sections; medicine, dental, feminine hygiene, deoderant, shave & body wash, lotion, sunblock/bug spray, face wash, cosmetics, nails, hair, kitchen drawer items, laundry, air freshener/candles, cleaning, paper products, beverages, dairy, cereal, crackers & chips, snacks, meat, pantry items, baking, condiments, freezer, deli, candy, office, baby products, misc. I put them in order in which I walk through a store. That way I don't spend hours flipping through the binder looking for a coupon. It may seem a little obsessive to some of you, most of you probably, but when I went to Target with my list of coupons, matched up with sale items and Target coupons, I saved $53.86. I don't think that is embarrassing, I think it's a new addiction. How much can I save?! You try it! Good Luck!

Dumpster Divas

Wednesday May 25, 2011

Everyone has been watching the new show Extreme Couponing so I'm sure you have seen the lady who goes through dumpsters to get coupons. I have to say it's a great idea. It's not like you are digging through garbage, it's just newspaper. So Laurie and I thought we would give it a try. Laurie was at the recycling center one day dropping off some cardboard and she happened to think of the show and peeked in the newspaper dumpster. She saw a bunch of shoppers that were still bound together with their plastic twine. She called me and I met her there. We had one problem, we couldn't reach them. So I put Turner in there and he hoisted them up to us. Ha! It sounds bad, but really it wasn't. He told me it was the best day ever! Typical boy! Anyhow, obviously shoppers don't have coupons but we figured we would check it out just to be sure. Well we scored! In each shopper were coupons to McDonalds. Buy one get ones and free frozen lemonades! We had about 200 coupons. We were so excited. Laurie was excited for the buy one get one free oatmeal that she loves and I was excited about the free lemonades that were going to be a hit with the kids! And they were! We have used so many coupons it was worth the embarrassment of "dumpster diving". We shared the coupons with whoever we came across and everyone was excited about our first find, yes first, we have went on to find even better deals that others thought to be just garbage!
